Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center: Overview

Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center is located at the northern entrance of Shuinan Smart City. Its development goal is to become an international convention and exhibition center that is representative of and leads the economic and trade industries. It aims to build a more forward-looking, international, and creative urban environment, and lay a solid foundation for the integration of the Taichung-Taiwan region with the international community. The Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center will develop in the two major directions of strengthening conferences and exhibitions. Through the parallel development of the main exhibition area and the multi-functional conference center, combined with the surrounding major constructions such as the Shuinan Transfer Center, Taichung Green Beauty Map, and Central Park, the overall landscape planning and transformation will be carried out.

Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center uses “Tree Gate” as its design concept and overall architectural design planning. The convention and exhibition center is located in a park with lush vegetation, and the overall impression of the facility is like a “gate of a big tree”. Therefore, “Tree Gate” is used as its design concept and overall architectural design planning. The central open space is designed as a plaza filled with dappled sunlight and shadows from the gaps between the trees. The roof surface with triangles as the basic element and the exterior wall form a double skin, designed as a plaza space with a variety of natural light effects. In order to suit the conditions of the building site and to make it a convention and exhibition center for citizen activities, the center of the building site is designed as an open citizen square, forming facilities connecting the north and south parks and a space for citizens to relax.
