Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center: About

Convention and Exhibition Center is a large public building in Futian Central Business District, Shenzhen, China. By occupying an area of 280,000 square metres (3,000,000 sq ft), it is the largest single structure building in Shenzhen. It is 540 metres (1,770 ft) in length and 282 metres (925 ft) wide. The building is 60 metres (200 ft) tall and was completed in 2004 at a cost of CNY3.2 billion. It has held almost 300 exhibitions and more than 1350 conferences since its opening. It is built by the Shenzhen municipal government, and was designed by the German architectural firm Gerkan, Marg and Partners.

It remains a popular venue for international fairs and exhibitions. The 2018 China hi tech fair (CHTF) was held here in November 2018.

Overview:

Shenzhen World Exhibition and Convention Center (Shenzhen World for short) is a major project invested by the Shenzhen Municipal Government and jointly constructed by China Merchants Shekou and Overseas Chinese Town for operation. It marks a mega exhibition and convention complex integrating exhibitions, conferences, events (games and performances, etc), catering and commerce.

Phase I of the project started in September, 2016. It was fully completed in September 2019 and put in operation in November. Upon completion, Shenzhen World will rise as a brand new generation of green and smart venue, which will be operated and managed through the cooperation of Shenzhen Zhaohua International Exhibition Operation Co., Ltd (a joint venture of CMSK and OCT) and US-based ASM Global, one of the top three venue operating giants around the world.

About Shenzhen:

Shenzhen municipality was established in 1979 and became the first special economic zone in 1980. In a fleeting 40 years of time, Shenzhen Special Economic Zone has emerged as a window to China’s reform and opening up, with remarkable progresses at all fronts, breathing its charm, dynamism, motivation and innovation in every way. On August 9th, 2019, the Opinions of the State Council on Supporting Shenzhen to Build a Leading Demonstration Zone of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics was issued, which has given Shenzhen a new historic mission to built itself into a demonstration zone of socialism with Chinese characteristics.

In 2020, Shenzhen’s total GDP has hit a record-breaking level of 2.6 trillion RMB, with a year-on-year increase of 3.1%, ranking first among the four first-tier cities in China. Compared with that of the end of 1979, Shenzhen’s GDP soared by 14116 times, whose growth speed topped the list of cities in China. The export and import value added up to 3.05 trillion, showing a year-on-year growth of 2.4%. The export value increased by 1.5% to 1.7 trillion while the import value grew by 3.6% to arrive at 1.35 trillion.

Besides, in November 2020, after the General Office of the Central Commission for Guiding Cultural and Ethical Progress had announced the sixth List of National Civilized Cities and reviewed the previous five lists of cities that retained this honorary title, Shenzhen was awarded the title for six consecutive years and recognized in a circulate for its high ranking in the review result. The title of National Civilized City is one of the most widely recognized and difficult award to earn, which requires comprehensive appraisal processes and reflects the city’s overall civilization level.
