ISIEX 2024: International Space Industry Expo – Overview
In November, 2022, NASA successfully launched Artemis 1, and the Artemis robotic and human Moon exploration program began in earnest. Humanity is aiming to land on the moon’s surface for the first time in fifty years. In anticipation of this and eventually manned Mars exploration, public space agencies and private companies around the world are expected to step up the pace of space development.
The space-related market size, which includes space exploration as well as satellite programs, rocket development, and more, is estimated to grow from its current size of 40 trillion yen to 100 to 300 trillion yen in the 2040s.
Japan’s Cabinet Office is increasing the space-related budget every year. The 2023 fiscal year had an increase of 17% year-on-year for a total 611.9 billion yen allocation. The Japan Aerospace Agency (JAXA) has put renewed efforts into collaborative development with private companies for space debris removal and domestic rocket development, and with the Artemis Project and the privatization of the International Space Station (ISS) ahead in 2030, this will be a huge turning point for private companies looking to create business in the space industry. The technological excellence of Japanese companies will attract global attention and demand for collaboration in the space industry.
The International Space Industry Exhibition ISIEX hosted by The Nikkan Kogyo Shimbun was held for the first time in March 2022. In February 2023, the scope was greatly expanded for the second exhibition, making it Japan’s largest industrial exhibition to focus solely on space business, with robots and products specialized for space development, lunar development projects, rocket development and satellite utilization businesses, and a wide range of terrestrial services. With support, cooperation, and stage lectures by Cabinet Office Space Development Strategy Headquarters and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), an inspection tour by the Minister of State for Space Policy Sanae Takaichi, and more, the exhibition had a high level of visibility and interest, and was well-attended for all three days.
The 3rd Edition of International Space Industry Exhibition ISIEX 2024 in February 2024 will be the biggest yet, with an even broader scope than ever before. It will serve as an opportunity for companies and organizations from a broad range of space-related fields from both Japan and around the world to make business connections.
We are looking forward to your exhibit at ISIEX2024.
