Renewable energy can be the most contemporary & efficient solution for reducing power crisis in Bangladesh. Sustainable social and economic development depends on adequate power generation capacity of a country. There is no other way for accelerating development except to increase the power generation by fuel diversification. Development of Renewable Energy is one of the most important strategies adopted as part of Fuel Diversification Program.
Bangladesh is a semi-tropical region lying-in northeastern part of South Asia and gets abundant sunlight year round. The average insulation in Bangladesh is 5 kWh / m2 / day. These indicate that there are good prospects for solar thermal and photovoltaic application in the country. There is a growing opportunity in the coastal areas for the other renewable energy resources like Wind power, Tidal energy and Wave energy near future. Geothermal energy is potential source for the north-west and north-east regions of the country.
