Agrex India 2020: Event Profile
Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India, more so in the vast rural areas. It also contributes a significant figure to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, natural resource management and biodiversity protection, are essential for holistic rural development. Indian agriculture and allied activities have witnessed a green revolution, a white revolution, a yellow revolution and a blue revolution.
Currently, around 51 per cent of India’s total workforce is engaged in agriculture and its allied sectors, like forestry, fisheries, and so on. For most of the 21st century India is expected to remain an agricultural society. One cannot underplay the role of agricultural growth in improving rural incomes and securing India’s food and nutritional needs.
Our population is expected to be 1.4 billion by 2020. The increasing population, coupled with growing income will generate increased demand for food grains and non-food grain crops. Therefore, Indian agriculture has to achieve and maintain a consistent and higher growth rate of 4 per cent per annum.
According to FederUnacoma report, India is world’s largest tractor market, with sales of 620,000 units in 2014, providing clear proof that India has emerged as new agricultural machinery mega market.
In consonance of the efforts of Indian Government for making India self sufficient in food grain production and increasing farm income, Media Today Group is organizing 6th Agrex India 2020 – National Exhibition on Agriculture, Farm Machinery & Agri Processing Technologies in Hyderabad (Telangana), from 28 February – 01 March, 2020. The event will pump in more value additions to the existing technology from all over the world.
Initiatives by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India
In recent years much emphasis has been given by the Ministry of Agriculture on commercializing Indian agriculture. The Government is working with a mission of “Sustainable Agriculture Production with minimum cost of cultivation, eventually enhancing the return on income to the farmer”. In the process of making the mission a reality, the Government is implementing schemes for the welfare of farmers like 9 hours free power supply, subsidized seed, subsidized interest rate on crop loans, subsidized and quality agricultural inputs etc.
The debt waiver scheme of Central Government and the incentive scheme of the State Government have helped about one crore farmers in the state to the tune of Rs.16, 000 crore. The Government is also keen on introducing cooperative farming to set up farm yields.
Adequate production and distribution of food has become a high priority and global concern. In the fast changing world and increasing competition in a globalized economy, there is need to exploit the available resources to the maximum level and use the best internationally available technologies. This will help in coping with domestic demand for food and also contribute to international exports.

Why Hyderabad?
The economy of Telangana is mainly supported by agriculture. Rice is a major food crop. and staple food of the State contributing about 77% of the food grain production. Other important local crops are cotton, sugar cane, mango and tobacco. Recently, crops used for vegetable oil production, such as sunflower and peanuts, have gained favor. The production of food grains in the state for the first time since formation of the State is recorded at 204.04 lakh tonne in 2008-09 as against 198.17 lakh tonne in 2007-08.
