5th EditionIndia International EV Show Chennai 2024 – International Exhibition for the Growth of Indian E-Vehicle Industry, it will focus on ensuring an enabling environment for the commercialization of electric vehicles in India and realizing the EV Industry.

India International EV Show Chennai 2024: About

The global automotive industry is undergoing a paradigm shift at present in trying to switch to alternative / less energy intensive options. The electric vehicle market has witnessed rapid evolution with the ongoing developments in automotive sector. Favorable government policies and support in terms of subsidies and grants, tax rebates and other non-financial benefits in the form of car pool lane access, and new car registration in the increasing vehicle range, better availability of charging infrastructure and proactive participation by automotive OEMs would drive the global electric vehicle sales.

Indian Scenario:

The Indian automotive industry is the fourth largest in the world and is slated to be the third largest by 2030. Catering to a vast domestic market, reliance on the conventional modes of fuel intensive mobility will not be sustainable. In an effort to address this, federal policymakers are developing a mobility option that is “Shared Connected and Electric” and have projected an ambitious target of achieving 100 percent electrification by 2030.

The burden of oil imports, rising pollution, and as well as international commitments to combat global climate change are among key factors motivating India’s recent policies to speed up the transition to e-mobility.By making the shift towards electric vehicles (EVs), India stands to benefit on many fronts: it has a relative abundance of renewable energy resources and availability of skilled manpower in the technology and manufacturing sectors.

Electric vehicle industry – Growth targets:

The electric vehicle industry in India is picking pace with 100% FDI possible, new manufacturing hubs, and increased push to improving charging infrastructure. Federal subsidies and policy favoring deeper discounts for Indian-made electric two-wheelers as well as a boost for localized ACC battery storage production are other growth drivers for the Indian EV industry. Moreover, in September 2021, a production-linked incentive scheme for the automotive sector was approved by Cabinet to boost the manufacturing of electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. India reported sales of over 300,000 EV units in 2021.

The EV market in India has gained significant momentum after the implementation of FAME India scheme. The total EV sales expected to grow at a CAGR of 36% till 2026. The allocation is under the Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Hybrid and Electric Vehicles (or FAME II). EV battery market is forecasted to grow at 30% CAGR, registering a growth of 28.0 GWh till 2026. The public charging infrastructure shall grow at a CAGR of 60% and the total charger sales shall grow by up to 50,000 units till 2026. However, all of this relies on indispensable factors such as creating robust charging infrastructure and reducing India’s over-dependency on battery imports. Both these issues can be managed when we start manufacturing rechargeable batteries indigenously and augment our electricity generation potential.Out of the electric two-wheelers sold last fiscal, 97% were electric scooters and a very small volume of motorcycles and electric cycles accounted for the remaining 3%. Low-speed scooters that have a max speed of 25km/hr and do not need registration with the transport authorities constituted a whopping 90% of all electric two-wheelers sold.

There have been many start-ups encashing their entrepreneurship journey and also the big giants of automobile industry are investing in “Aatmnirbhar Bharat” with a vision to reduce import dependency and position India as a global manufacturing hub with respect to various engine technologies that are being offered by automakers — battery-operated electric vehicles (BEV), mild hybrid electric vehicles (MHEV), hybrid electric vehicles (HEV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) and hydrogen powered fuel-cell electric vehicles (FCEVs).
